This art therapy session, available exclusively to Stoneybrook students, allows students the opportunity to not only interact with the horses but also work with a certified art therapist to complete an introspective piece each session. ART THERAPY WORKSHOP Participants will be engaging in exploring with various art supplies in order to build improved feelings of self-esteem, develop and build healthy social skills, reduce anxiety and develop connection with group members while exploring emotions and learning skills to help manage moods and behaviors in a healthy manner. Maureen is a registered and board certified practicing Art Therapist for over 20+ years with experience working in a variety of environments including adult and geriatric in-patient behavioral health care, drug and alcohol outpatient and partial hospitalization and am currently working on a child and adolescent in-patient behavioral health unit. Maureen has extensive experience working with mental health youth with a wide variety of diagnosis and developmental levels providing group and individual art therapy. Her goal as an Art Therapist in all these settings has always been to provide the client/patient the opportunity to explore emotions, internal conflict and address current stressors in his/her life through the safety of the art. Art therapy has helped her patients improve feelings of self-worth and self-esteem, develop more healthy relationships with family members and peers, strength building and gaining insight into behavior choices as well as stress and anxiety reduction.
